Our topic this term is

'The history of flight'

We have already been very busy and have been investigators to find out all about the first hot air balloon flight by the Montgolfier brothers. we are very excited about our trip to the Fleet Air Arm Museum. We hope to have lots of fun and learn lots about flight.

As you can see, the balloons are hung all over the classroom for all to see.

Class trip - Fleet Air Arm Museum - Yeovilton

Class 2 bravely stepped out the classroom to explore more about flight. We set off on Wednesday 1st March to the Fleet Air Arm Museum. I have to say for both the adults and children who went. What an amazing place it is! We were expertly shown around the museum by two volunteers Barry and Frank. They kept the children engaged and really gave them that 'wow' factor they needed to be able to continue our topic on flight. You can see from the pictures that we had an amazing time. In the afternoon, the children were given a special workshop on the history of flight. We even re-built the Wright brother's first plane. Two amazingly lucky children even got to fly it. A massive thank you to Mrs Edney, Miss Sherrin and Mrs Swift who accompanied us on the day.

Life Education Van - Harold the Giraffe

Class 2 took a trip down to Symene fields to meet Harold the giraffe. We learnt all about our bodies and healthy eating. It was a lovely experience and the children all went away knowing something new.

PE - Year 2 Gymnastics

Whilst year 1 have been busy swimming, year 2 have been learning gymnastics. here are a few snaps of a few of them in action learning how to use a spring board.

Flying lessons with Mr Follett

Mr Follet came into class two this afternoon and showed us some of his remote control helicopter, drone and aeroplane collection. This children had a fabulous afternoon we even all had a go on the flight simulator. Amelia managed to fly the plane the longest without crashing! We were even treated to a helicopter flying demonstration on the back field. It certainly made a loud noise.

Perseverance

Our school focus this term has been perseverance. The children have learnt lots about sticking with things and not giving up. This is our display in class of thought bubbles of challenges that the children hope to achieve this term.

Science

Class 2 have been studying the earth, moon and seasons in Science. The children have learnt so much already. Here are some comments they've made when asked about things they've learnt.

I didn't know the Sun (Sol) was so big - Etienne

I've learnt that the earth spins once everyday and moves around the sun.- Henry

The sun is a big ball of fire. It is also a star - Rosie

There are 4 seasons, Winter, Summer, Autumn and Spring - Jack

The moon takes 28 days to move around the Earth - Millie

Here is our artist take on learning about our seasons here on earth.

Art

On a Monday afternoon class 2 have been learning about Vincent Van Gough. We have been studying about shading and using our pencil colours in a different way. Here are some examples of our work.
