Mindful Digital Collective Final Session

Session Five: Final Showcase with Special Guests

Our final session was a bit of a show and tell, giving the children a chance to share what they’d learned over the past few weeks.

To do this, we invited parents in to hear directly from their children. This was really important — we wanted to encourage the conversation to continue at home and for parents to understand how vital it is to explore these topics with their children. I'm a big believer that open conversations are where it all begins.

For the first 15 minutes, we paired the children up in twos, and each pair focused on one topic. The topics included:

  • It’s Cool to Be Kind – focused on navigating group chats and thinking about your digital footprint
  • AI – What It Is and How It Works – with a couple of hands-on activities to bring it to life
  • Stop Before You Click – helping others understand phishing, online scams, and how to protect personal information
  • Hooked to Your Screens – exploring how social media and screen time keep us coming back

Parents moved around the room, speaking with each pair at their stand and asking questions. One unplanned but brilliant moment came when one student pair created a quiz for parents to test what they knew – it added a bit of pressure and made the learning even more fun!

Each stand had a few key messages we wanted to land — both for the children and the parents. These takeaways worked really well as simple, powerful thoughts to leave everyone with.

What stood out most was the quality of the conversations. The children spoke with confidence, and it was clear they felt proud of the knowledge they’d gained. I’m always amazed by how deeply they think about these topics.

To wrap things up, we gave parents a feedback form to fill in with their child. We’re really looking forward to seeing what comes back – what worked, what we could do more of, and any topics they'd like us to cover in the future. It’ll be key in helping us shape what comes next and improve what we’re doing.

Finally, I want to say a massive thank you to Symondsbury Primary:

  • Mrs Roberts – for all her support and guidance on what the school needs
  • Mrs Westley – for making me feel at home in the classroom and helping keep the children focused
  • Miss Sherin – for getting everything set up and being so supportive and welcoming throughout

It really does make all the difference.
