Transition into Symondsbury

As you will be aware, schools have had over a year of uncertainty and ‘unusual circumstances’ due to the coronavirus pandemic. At this moment in time, we are operating within “bubbles” with only essential adults entering the school grounds.  With this in mind, we have a plan for transition sessions in the summer term, and will keep parents updated on any changes if we need to adjust the plans.

A smooth transition from home to school is very important, we want children to feel safe, happy and secure in their new environment.  We invite children to spend three afternoons with us and the dates for our 2021 intake are as follows:

  • - Wednesday 16th June- 10-11.30 OR 1.30-3.00

A short session for parents and children to meet the teaching team, some new friends and become familiar with the learning environment.  They will attend one of these time slots. We will have half the class in at a time with one parent attending with each child. At this moment in time, parents will be expected to stay in our outdoor area, wear a face covering and keep socially distanced from other children and adults.

  • - Wednesday 23rd July – 1.30 – 3.00

Parents are encouraged to leave their children for this session to develop the confidence and independence that will prepare them for their first term.

Usually during this time, we would have an informative talk in the hall with the opportunity to find out more about the roles of the Friends of Symondsbury School, Governing Body, and Local Food Links (hot lunches).

  • - Wednesday 30th June – 1.30 – 3.00

An afternoon for the children to stay by themselves with their new class.

Our transition process will also consist of:

  • - Pre-school visits

We visit children in their pre-school setting to meet them in an environment they are familiar and comfortable with.  It is also an opportunity to talk to keyworkers about children, their interests and their development during their pre-school time.  If, due to the situation, visits are not possible we will still be contacting pre-schools for any transition information they have.

  • - Parent Meetings

We hold individual meetings with parents to discuss their child's interests and strengths.  This is also an opportunity to discuss any concerns they may have or ask any questions.

Start of Term

The children will start school on Monday 6th September 2021 and we encourage them to join us on a full time timetable straight away where possible. We want all children to have the best start, and cannot wait to meet them all and welcome them into the ‘Symondsbury Family’.
